Where to Stay Near Paddington: Scored Hotel Picks
Every hotel below is scored on five criteria: Location (30 pts — walking distance to landmarks, tube access), Value (25 pts — price vs facilities for tier), Guest reviews (20 pts — Booking.com score, min 8.0 to qualify), Transport (15 pts — airport links, tube zone), and Facilities (10 pts). Total out of 100.
Paddington is underrated as a London base. The station gives you the Elizabeth line (direct Heathrow in 35 minutes), Bakerloo, Circle, District, and Hammersmith & City lines — genuinely excellent connectivity. But unlike Kings Cross, the neighbourhood around Paddington is worth being in: Hyde Park is a 5-minute walk, Notting Hill 15 minutes, and Little Venice 10 minutes north. If you're arriving from Heathrow or the West Country and want both good transport and a liveable neighbourhood, this is one of the better bases in London.

Availability and pricing change constantly. The Bayswater and Queensway areas offer a wider range than the immediate station neighbourhood — filter by guest score (8.0 minimum) on Booking.com to avoid the weaker options.

Notting Hill: 15 minutes from Paddington
Hotels in Notting Hill proper (around Portobello Road and Ladbroke Grove) tend to be boutique, independently run, and 20–30% more expensive than comparable Paddington options. The tradeoff is being in one of the most pleasant neighbourhoods in inner London: Victorian townhouses, independent coffee shops, the Saturday market, and proximity to Holland Park. If neighbourhood atmosphere matters more than Tube convenience, look at Notting Hill's guesthouses and boutique hotels separately from the Paddington options above.
Staying near Paddington: FAQ
Paddington is one of the best-connected stations in London after Kings Cross — and unlike Kings Cross, the surrounding neighbourhood (Bayswater, Hyde Park, Notting Hill) is genuinely pleasant. Hyde Park is a 5-minute walk. The Elizabeth line opened 2022 and makes Heathrow a 35-minute direct run. It's a strong choice for visitors arriving by train or wanting easy airport connections without being far from central attractions.
35 minutes on the Elizabeth line (direct, running every 10 minutes from Paddington platforms 6–7). Cost: £13 with contactless or Oyster. This is significantly faster than the Piccadilly line from Kings Cross (50 minutes) and the same speed as the Heathrow Express (20 min but £25+).
Hyde Park (5-min walk east), Kensington Gardens and the Royal Albert Hall (15-min walk south), Portobello Road market (15-min walk west via Notting Hill), and the Natural History and Science Museums (25-min walk south via Kensington). The Grand Union Canal (Little Venice) is 10 minutes north — one of the less-visited but genuinely lovely corners of inner London.
The immediate area around Paddington station is average — functional but not a destination. Walk 15 minutes to Westbourne Grove (Bayswater/Notting Hill border) for the best independent restaurants. Ledbury Road and Hereford Road are good for mid-range dining. Notting Hill Gate has a wider selection. The Portobello Road market area (Saturday, 9am–3pm) has excellent street food.
